WOW!!! That's all I have to say... ...except, what kind of review would that be? IMPORTANT: You should ask for the "gator-dog" it's not on the menu (forgive me my fellow locals for giving away the secret) but it is just the right amount of spicy and flavorful. Give it a shot. This place has great BBQ, and every side I tried was awesome, Green beans, Cole slaw, mac and cheese all right on point. Prices are good and the place is just unique. Such a diamond in the rough. Great stop for lunch. They also have some beer and wine for those who want that extra flavor with their meal.

I am giving smokin planks 4 stars instead of 5 for one reason, which I'll get to. First, I read reviews and ordered the pulled pork sandwich for my husband and I for pick up. The gentleman I spoke to on the phone was very helpful and polite, I started out on a good foot. I walked in and they have a pick up counter and an order counter. Naturally I walk up to the pick up counter, as I had already placed my order. The older woman working there was incredibly rude. She acted like I was out of line for standing at the pick up and very condescendingly told me to stand in the order line. So I obliged. That naturally rubbed me the wrong way. Anyhow, I was helped by Brooke who very politely gave me a military discount because my husband is active duty. She was very professional which boosted my review from an automatic 3 to a 4. The pulled pork was good. Their sauces are pretty decent. I was left unimpressed with the fries. I probably will not return, but wouldn't be opposed to it if someone had to go there. Still wouldn't be my first choice.

Really good! Brought the family for lunch and the food was incredible. The cole slaw was a highlight. Sweet tea or Yuengling beer means all beverage needs are met. Had the Cuban sandwich and was very impressed. One downside: You have to remember to check-in or review later as there's no cell coverage...certainly not their fault.

I understand a lot of people really like this place, but it's definitely not for me. I wanted to try the ribs and brisket but they had nothing I could get as a combo, unless I got the sampler platter. So I just got the brisket sandwich with 1 side. Came out to $14 and that was with a military discount. Got takeout and got home maybe 10 min and the food was absolutely cold. I got the Mac n Cheese and I didn't know it had corn in it, I didn't like it. For $14 I was expecting a decent amount of meat on the sandwich, but if you can find my picture I posted, you can see I hardly got any. Brisket was OK nothing special for me. I just couldn't believe I payed $14 for that little bit of food.....I can't say I won't ever eat here again, because I know a lot of people like it, but it won't be my 1st choice and I will definitely be getting something else.

Atmosphere was great and the place smelled amazing. I ordered the smoked chicken sandwich (no bun- trying to cut down on the carbs) with slaw and a bag of chips. The portion was the size of the plate about 4oz of chicken and a scoop of slaw. Great portion for being on a diet but a little spendy 9$. The chicken had great flavor but was a bit dry. Thank goodness for the delicious selection of BBQ sauces they were all really tasty. My friend got the pulled pork sandwich he said the bun was dry but the pork was good. We came here with high expectations because of previous yelpers and the 5 star reviews but we were a little disappointed. Maybe next time it will be better.

Living up to my sister's wishes as she visited the low country for the very first time we went on the hunt for a good barbecue place for her to enjoy her while visiting me. I went on the recommendation of a neighbor who told us that smokin' planks was the best barbecue around. I did very much so enjoyed their barbecue we got the big variety plate so we had a little bit of everything to try. While their sides to the left something to be desired their smoked meats were amazing. However I was surprised to find that with our big plate that we ordered in order for me to share the plate with other people I had to pay per person a share fee which is new to me. It was a little bit on the pricey side bringing us near $100 for four adults and three children to eat including tip. Would I come back? Maybe, just for their smoke meats, however, the price of their plates is a little bit of a put off.

Such a great place! If you are looking for a nice place to eat lunch relax and have a good time with family or friends then this is the perfect place! The food was so delicious even without any sauce on it! The Bronswick stew is to die for and the pulled pork sandwich filled me up! The people are so nice and welcoming as well! It is a family owned restaurant and it really shows with the hospitality and how comforting the food is! If you are nearby and want a good lunch head here and you won't regret it!

We are new in town and looking for dog friendly places to eat. Smokin' Planks is great for dogs and people. we had the brisket sandwich with slaw and an extra side of mac n cheese. All was very good. I wish I had been told I had a choice of bun, wrap or texas toast on the sandwich. It was served on texas toast by default I guess. We will return with a little more local knowledge and have our buns. As for the Pugs. They loved the big fenced shade covered yard and the water and cookies the waitress brought out to our table.

Excellent place! Great food and very welcoming people. My son graduated that day from Parris Island and the owners of Smokin' Planks offers a free meal to any new Marine that visits in uniform on graduation day. The owner (a former military man himself) came around to the different tables to speak to all the new Marines and their families. Food was reasonably priced and very good. We had a pretty good sampling of the menu choices-- pulled pork, bque chicken, brisket, baked beans, mac and cheese, succotash, and french fries and everything was great. If you are traveling in the Hilton Head area, it is well worth your time to detour to Port Royal for a great barbeque meal.

Coordinated a 20'something year reunion for a group of Marines I served with at Parris Island and was lucky enough to stumble upon Smokin' Planks. The owner (Larry) was so helpful and easy to work with - I was delighted to meet him and his staff when I finally made it to town on the 4th (I live in Southern CA). The restaurant itself is quaint and inviting, the aroma is absolutely to die for... it took every bit of me not to pick at the food before getting it to our party! Servings were ample, we ate early and had enough left over for evening snacks... there wasn't a scrap left by the end of the night! We had chicken quarters, dry-rub ribs, and pulled pork - I've been all over the States and have had some great BBQ... this is by far the absolute best I've ever had! Would definitely recommend to anyone local and/or traveling through the Beaufort area... it's definitely on my list when I get the chance to go back!

Went the day before thanksgiving. One of the best pulled pork sandwich so good. The bun toasted to perfection and I agree some of the best vinegar sauce ever. The owner was very nice and came out and talked for a bet. Great BBQ restaurant.

Down on vacation from Asheville NC went down to Paris Ave for street music Saturday night. We had noticed Smokin'' Planks on yelp so we decided to try them out. We had the pulled pork sandwich with Mac and cheese. Delicious smoked pork and the vinegar sauce was in the top three I've ever tasted. The Mac and cheese was off the hook! Five cheeses for an incredible richness. Only my mom makes it better. The owner, Larry Planks made sure we had every thing we needed and his daughter rang us up... Great service! Come to find out Larry has been smoking meats all his life and he loves experimenting with foods and flavors. He even smokes local fish. His smoked wahoo was incredible! We snacked on it on crackers and a salad the next day at the condo. We will be coming back for more of that great chow!
